Rob Johnson from Research Consulting reflected on key findings from the study International perspectives on the impact of COVID-19 on university research and review emerging developments in publishing in 2021. The study looked in particular at the higher education systems in the UK and Australia.

Jack Hyland represented the Irish nationally funded e-resource licensing consortium IReL and will talk about his experience since the pandemic hit Ireland.
About the speakers:
Rob Johnson is the managing director of Research Consulting, a mission-driven business which works to improve the effectiveness and impact of research and scholarly communication. Rob began his career as a consultant with KPMG, the international professional services firm, and spent four years as Head of Research Operations at the University of Nottingham, UK. He has led more than 100 projects in the field of scholarly communication, serving universities, funders, publishers, vendors and software suppliers. Rob is the lead author of the 2018 STM Report and a regular commentator on the development of open access and its impact on academic publishing.
Jack Hyland is the manager of the IReL consortium, based in Maynooth University, Kildare. He is a member of the National Open Research Forum (NORF) Steering Group, tasked with proposing actions to support open research in Ireland.
